We offer basic Horsemanship Classes, This course is designed to teach beginning and inexperienced students to ride horses safely. Students may choose to begin at this level or they may be placed at this level by testing prior to the first day of class. Riders may choose to start with either English or Western equipment, and will be able to experience riding in both disciplines during the course. The major focus of this class will be on proper rider position and use of rider’s aids to influence the horse.
During this course students will learn how to safely lead, restrain, groom, tack-up, warm-up, cool-down and untack their horses; mount and dismount; properly influence the horse they are riding with hand, seat, leg and voice aids; control their horse through simple figures at the walk, trot and canter; and ride at the sitting trot and posting trot. Enrollment in this course is the minimum prerequisite for participating in mounted activities outside of riding classes.
These classes are run in 2hr. blocks at 15.00 dollars an hour.
